Harsh winter weather brought a few blizzards our way in ’09/’10 (hard to forget those record snow accumulations!) and after the plowing and salting, our tired old driveway has been in major need of a facelift. Construction began last Friday as the crew arrived bright and early to begin demolition of the first section of the driveway, from the mailboxes near the entrance closest to Greenspring Avenue to the fork at the bottom of the drive. What, you may ask, does all of the construction involve? It’s certainly not as easy as throwing down some new asphalt. We’re removing built up asphalt, establishing a new road bed, repairing gravel gutters and edging stones, and finally, installing the new asphalt.
We’re asking visitors and guests to use the second driveway entrance just around the bend in Greenspring Valley Road for the next few weeks until phase one is complete. We’ll keep you posted on the next phase of construction and our estimated time frame.
Our driveway repairs also happen to coincide with some state roadwork currently underway on Greenspring Valley Road. If you’re hosting a midweek event, planning a stay or have scheduled an appointment at Gramercy, allow some extra time to arrive. Crews have been directing one-way traffic through sections of the road at various times, usually between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.
In the meantime, we hope you’ll pardon our asphalt dust as we make these major road repairs to our driveway. We’re looking forward to a newly-paved entrance and we’re sure you are, too!
