Bed & breakfast guests are always asking “What is there to do at Gramercy Mansion?” So much! We’re just minutes from the attractions, restaurants, museums and galleries of Baltimore city. But to truly unwind and enjoy an authentic B&B getaway, check-in, stay awhile and check out some of our favorite outdoor activities on the property.
10 Fun Outdoor Activities at Gramercy Mansion
- Take a dip in the outdoor pool, open from May to September. Pool towels are provided in your guest room closet. Claim a comfy chaise lounge for a relaxing afternoon of sunbathing and swimming.
- Garden gaze. Gramercy’s back gardens are beautiful year-round and especially April through November. Burn those breakfast calories with a stroll from the wedding garden to the little metal gazebo and statuary fountain and hop on the connector path winding behind the pool to end at the shade garden with marble gazebo. As you walk along the connector path, look to your left to see our progress with a new fountain and patio installation.
- Investigate history. Originally built in 1902, there are some original structures on Gramercy’s grounds definitely worth a visit. Pick up a history brochure to learn more about original structures, their evolution and how they currently function on the property including an ice pond, ice house, creamery, Carriage House, caretaker and gardener’s cottages and more.
- Explore 45 acres of walking trails and gardens including Koinonia Organic Farm. We are proud to be the home to Maryland’s oldest certified organic farm and probably the second oldest in the US, specializing in culinary herbs with sales to Giant, Whole Foods and Mom’s Organic Market. Investigate the hoop houses and smell the fresh herbs. Property maps are located on the dining room table.
- Discover Honeybrook stream. Take a right on the gravel road just past the farm’s packing shed. When you reach the concrete truck bridge, continue to the left about 50 feet to a very small waterfall and wooden bridge. Cross over and follow the stream to the stone bridge on the entry road and continue uphill to return to Gramercy.
- Enjoy a picnic lunch, a book or a game of croquet in the center circle garden. Tables, chairs and benches tucked beneath the canopy of trees provide a perfect spot to spend the day. Pick up a sandwich at the nearby Wine Merchant at Greenspring Station. Ask to borrow our croquet set or grab a paperback from our library bookshelf.
- Observe the birds and wildlife. Gramercy is a recognized bird sanctuary and home to many species of wildlife. Borrow our binoculars for bird watching. An abundance of hummingbirds and butterflies flock to the pool area immediately behind the Mansion… you may spy some during breakfast.
- Play the day away. Tennis anyone? Feel free to use the tennis and basketball court just behind the parking lot. Racquets and balls are available upon request. A wooden playground for children is just behind the tennis court along with a trampoline.
- Lounge on the treetop deck. Perched in the trees just behind the playground is a wooden viewing platform, complete with twinkle lights and deck chairs. A perfect place for a quiet lunch or star gazing.
- Swing from a tree. Soar from the old-fashioned tree swing in the center circle. Show your kids how it was done in the past or relive the old days with someone special.
