The weather for the weekend is looking to shape up… perfect for unwinding in the sunshine and indulging in a crisp, cold beverage of your choice. Whether your drink of choice is a sparkling white or a rich red, you’ll find something sure to tickle your taste buds at Great Grapes Wine, Arts and Food Festival at Oregon Ridge this Saturday and Sunday, June 12 – 13. The two day festival features over 20 Maryland wineries (and unlimited free tastings!), crafts and culinary gift items, live music, wine pairing seminars, cooking demos, and family-friendly kids activities. Didn’t realize Maryland wine country is in your own backyard? Well, it sure is a great time of year to explore the local vineyards, taste what they offer and discover that perfect bottle for your summer cookouts, evenings by a camp fire, or vacations at the beach. Nearby wineries we frequent include…
Boordy Vineyards. Located in Hydes, Maryland, about a 30-minute drive from Gramercy, this family winery has been owned by the Defords since 1980 and producing some of the best local wines ever since. You’ll find varieties including chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot, seyval blanc and vidal blanc. I personally love to grab a group of friends, a picnic blanket and some snacks and head to this Long Green Pike winery for special events. The Midsummer Concert Series begins this Saturday, June 12th with a different band every weekend through September 4th. Gates open between 5:30 – 5:45 p.m. Wine, music, dancing and picnic-ing under the stars… Who could ask for a better summer night? For a schedule of events, click here.
Basignani Winery. Privately-owned by Bert & Lynne Basignani (a very kind, wonderful and welcoming family!), this Peidmont winery is just a short drive north on Falls Road from Gramercy, in the heart of horse country. The twenty or so acre estate produces a limited quantity of some of the best Maryland wines. Visit for a private tasting, tour of the vineyards, and come back to help with the fall harvest and learn more about wine making first hand. Basignani also hosts special events throughout the year. Enjoy TGIF Movie nights through the summer – relax with a bottle of wine and enjoy a popular open-air film and slice of brick oven pizza. Tickets are $8 per person. Call ahead to r.s.v.p. Here’s to enjoying the weekend ahead! Cheers!
