This weekend Baltimore plays host to Artscape 2010, the annual free arts and entertainment festival between Mt. Vernon and Cathedral Streets that draws audiences from near and far for an incredible three days of live performances by headline entertainers. Dance, comedy, film, fashion, music… if you consider it art, you’ll find it in some form this weekend. Big name acts for at this year’s Artscape include Gov’t Mule, Wale and Musiq Soulchild. For the first time in 29 years, the festival will feature a night of comedy, LOL@Artscape, as ten local comics take the stage for a two-hour showcase. Come hungry because there will be food galore – and a huge International variety of it. If you’re trying to be healthy and stay in swimsuit shape, no worries – grilled, vegan and organic options are available. Of course, I tend to gravitate toward anything beer-battered and fried… not sure how I feel about a “fish hotdog” but worth a try.
Snag a copy of the Live section from today’s Baltimore Sun for your “Artscape survival guide.” With so many stages and sites and a huge schedule of events, this festival sprawls over a few city blocks. So plan ahead, hop on the MTA or the Charm City Circulator to get where you’re going, and join the throngs of festival attendees for the biggest block party of the summer. (Easiest route from our neck of the woods here at Gramercy Mansion is the Light Rail from Falls Road to Cultural Center – State Center).
