Congratulations to Talyn and Katie, this week’s real wedding feature! These two lovely ladies said I-Do surrounded by lush September gardens at the Carriage House on September 3, 2016 in front of 60 of their nearest and dearest. Here’s their story…
Katie was born in Dubuque, Iowa and grew up in Phoenix, AZ. She works in the dental field and her parents currently live in Frederick, MD. Talyn was born and raised in Washington, DC where she is a teacher. Her parents reside in DC as well.
The two met at a bar in DC in April 2010 (coincidentally on Katie’s birthday) and clicked immediately. With many mutual interests, their relationship took off from there. Over a dinner conversation in October 2014, they decided it was time to take the next step in their relationship… a wedding was in their future!
Initial plans were to host the wedding at a close friend’s home in DC, but after beginning the planning process, Katie and Talyn realized it would be a logistical nightmare. An internet search led them to Gramercy Mansion, and we’re sure glad it did! They visited and were enchanted. The venue matched their desired aesthetic perfectly.
The color palette for the celebration was navy blue and silver. The brides provided their own white roses for the decor and Katie’s bouquet was from The Pink Orchid in Bowie, MD.
Katie wore a sophisticated cream crepe gown with draped back from BHLDN designed by Badgley Mischka and Talyn wore an elegant Hugo Boss suit.
Guests enjoyed a menu of grilled summer peach salad, chicken Pollo al burro, Yukon gold whipped potatoes and haricots verts by Chef’s Expressions and family friends made the couple’s wedding cake. DeeJayQ set the tone for the dance floor and the brides danced their first dance to “I Found My Smile” by D’Angelo. Guests received a box of Katie and Talyn’s favorite Nag Champa incense with a hand-crafted wooden incense holder as their favor. The newlyweds honeymooned in Miami, Florida before returning home to married life in a Maryland suburb just outside of DC.
Special thanks to Ashley Kolodner and Robin Littlejohn for the photos below.
Thank you, Katie and Talyn, for celebrating your lovely garden wedding at Gramercy! We were honored to host your ceremony and reception and we look forward to welcoming you back for many happy anniversaries to come.
Best wishes for a lifetime of love and happiness!
